Your early morning running crew looks like a lot of fun! Your enthusiasm about ultra marathons makes me even more excited for the Marine Corps 50k. It's a road race rather than a trail race so is a little different than most ultramarathons but is at least a first step. Assuming I survive, I am looking at trying the JFK 50-miler next year.

I'm really excited to hear how those turn out. 100% sure you can do both physically. Beyond a marathon it is just a mental game and the question of how badly you want it is a very legitimate question that often doesn't have an easy answer. But answering it is interesting.

Agreed, regular gatorade has WAY too much sugar, but why not gatorade zero or the occasional liquid IV? Any qualms with those?

They're better. I doubt most people need the sugar in Liquid IV.

Never seen the spinning burn.

Does using it like a speed bag work forearms? Or just twisting the handles to rotate clock wise and counter clockwise?

Is the resistance adjustable?

They make them with adjustable resistance. My sense is that no one protected the IP so there are lots of variations made by different companies. Mine isn't adjustable. It certainly hits shoulders just keeping it up and out and punching like a speed bag. Perhaps analogous to flutter kicks -- much of the work is the isometrics of keeping the positions with the specific movement not needing to be particularly weighted. Yes, works forearms.

The side to side forearm work is the hardest to hit. Usually stuck doing 'thor hammers' but its hard to progress as holding a little lower or higher changes the leverage and therefore the resistance a ton.

Having a good tool to work that would be great - ill have to look into this more. thanks

Great stuff, Chris. Flying back from Europe right now after two weeks visiting family - inspired to get back into the routine tomorrow.

Yeah - wife is from Poland so it’s a yearly trek for us...I’m a sucker for home and routine, so two weeks is a little long for me.
