That is an awesome bench. We do a lot more higher reps / lower weight and after this one push will probably go back to that but should be fun to chase this once.
"In addition to the prize money, the winner gets a tomahawk steak from the New Canaan Butcher Shop. In theory, this won’t be an ideal prize for a vegetarian; in practice, I think it is a pretty low risk." - Watch it Demuth or I will publicly challenge you to a vegetarian vs carnivore MMA bout to settle this - and you know with me "mixed" includes swords :)
I struggle to balance lifting heavy weights w regular jiujitsu training. Feels like you have to pick one, but maybe that’s bc I can’t figure out recovery / programming.
I think you have to pick one in terms of going on offense, but can try to maintain things elsewhere. Impossible (at least for me in my own limited experience) to make serious improvements simultaneously in multiple directions. Figuring a way to muddle through this balance is a top priority for me.
Thanks! I like both but regular a few times a week for a half an hour and more when I can. I wish I had access to a gym with a cold plunge pool, too, but need to use the Long Island Sound for that. Playing around with cold and hot temperature exposure feels good (at least after) and seems to replicate some of the benefits of exercise.
I hope you follow through with the log purchase. My gym has one and it is tons of fun. As you noted, it is probably not a necessity gym piece as other bars/dumbbells/kettlebells suffice for most exercises, but it just feels way cooler to pick up into the air!
I particularly like it for cleaning, being able to roll it up to my front rack position compared with cleaning a barbell. And I am a sucker for natural materials that age over time and get old and scarred along with me.
lifetime best bench was ~450. But it starts really taking a toll on shoulders if you spend a lot of time doing 1-3 RM pressing.
405 is way cooler than 400....but 500 is way cooler than 495

Good luck! Are you doing the regular sauna or infrared sauna?
