My son was a combat paratrooper in the IDF from 2010 to 2012 on the Lebanon border. It's an elite unit: 6 jumps from a C-130 on a static line, with an 80-lb ruck strapped to him. Go, count to 3. If the chute doesn't open, pull the reserve. If it doesn't open, make peace with God. If so, unbuckle the ruck, and it drops on a tether 30' below you because landing without it causes enough mayhem-broken everything, femurs, tibia, etc. Luckily, things were like pilots describe flying-- hours of boredom interrupted by moments of stark terror. Takeoff and landing. Israel has a reserve army, and they are doing the fighting with shit equipment, so Kol Ha Kavod (all the honors) to you and your buddy. I was booked for a 10-day stay, leaving MIA-TLV on March 1. Purim, like Mardi Gras, Carnivale, Halloween, and April Fools ' Day, all in one at Mike's Place and all over Tel Aviv. Will go later. You're a stud.
Deeply appreciated -- both your son's service and your generosity. It will be deployed immediately. Money needs to settle, gear needs to get bought, and then we'll get it to the front within a week.
