Reflecting
I’m competing in the New Canaan Combine again this year. It is a fun community event pitting our police versus fire departments in a challenging test of fitness, strength, and determination. I’m hoping to rejoin the cops as a ringer. This year’s competition is particularly important to me as the money we raise is all going to help support kids with life threatening pediatric cancer and their families. If you’re local, please consider participating. And while I don’t charge and never plan on charging anything for Vale Tudo, I’d be grateful to anyone who could donate what you can here. The organizer is a friend and I’m 100% certain that every $0.01 will be well spent. You can learn more about the cause on this podcast. Any predictions on fire v cop strength?
Training
This morning’s white board:
10-8-6-8-10 not for time –
Back Squat as heavy as possible
DB Bench Press as heavy as possible
DB Rows as heavy as possible
As for trail running, getting ready for a big run and bonfire Friday night.
Fueling
Steak from the New Canaan Butcher Shop:
Supplementing
Adding L-Citrulline to my supplement stack for workout endurance and muscle recovery.
Measuring
Helping a friend newly get into fitness, we did 100 push-ups per day and 1 hour of cumulative plank in May. For June, I’m planning 100 air squats per day and 1 hour of cumulative flutter kicks. Hopefully he’ll do a lot more, but I wanted to start with a minimal effective dose with 100% consistency to build the habit. He’s measuring PBF/BMR and doing progress pics monthly, which I find to be a good increment for measuring new progress.
Recovering
I did Murph in a vest with my 9-year old Saturday. We had a ball. Right wrist jacked up, so have to make a few adjustments. Can still do push-ups, but have to do them on fists instead of palming the ground. Hopefully will recover over the next few days.

The firemen, cops, and the community all win with an event like this. Glad to see it. Hope the parents of New Canaan youth bring them out to watch and get involved. Win/Win/Win.
I’m voting for the Firemen. They seem to have more time to workout and strength is a requirement. As a cop, I’d go for speed, strength and agility in that order. After being an expert marksman of course. Hope you’re wrist recovers quickly; it’ll mess up your bench press pursuit and maybe stone lifting.
