Hey Chris. I know everyone's mileage/situation is different but what was the particular eye surgery you did?
I am 46 and have the eyes of a 46 year old. Not like it used to be. I have been advised to delay eye surgery for my particular vision problem. But maybe I need other opinions. Vision is too important! thanks!
I am 47 (today!). I was getting frustrated putting glasses on to watch my coach then taking them off to roll in jiu jitsu so I got them fixed. Better than 20:15 (they stopped measuring at that point) with no significant side effects. 10 seconds each eye; painless and not scary at all. Corneas healed perfectly. The surgeon could barely see the scars. This procedure has less dry eye side effect. Also it keeps the eye surface stronger so it is a better fit for MMA as one occasionally gets punched in the eye.
No, just everyone going back to their corners. The US is exceptional in many ways and I hesitated to be too prescriptive. We are an outlier in a bad way on violence but also an outlier in a good way on entrepreneurship. When people advocate for their chosen believes the US is easy to take some stat and leap to conclusions. At the risk of doing that, I would point to our ultra processed food driven obesity epidemic. Sadly, foreigners start to catch up with our obesity when exposed to our fast food.
I do one day fasts once a week and occasionally do two days at a time. I have heard that once you get past 60-72 hours your body starts breaking down muscle instead of burning fat.
Do you know anything about when the body switches from burning stored fat to muscle? Also wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on if it would be worth shooting for a two day fast once a week.
Great questions. My understanding is that you lose muscle from fasting around hour 24. It is definitely breaking down muscle at that 60-72 hour range and probably before that. Not something that I experiment with because I don't want to risk losing muscle mass. For me 18 hours is ideal. I sleep then I race through my fitness and work activities so am not passively denying myself food as much as throwing myself into other activities. Then when those are done, I turn to a meal.

Thanks Chris! Hope it is a roaring year for you!
That life expectancy chart is making the rounds. Have you seen a good (unbiased / statistical / logical) explanation ?
