Very enjoyable reading. My first workout of the year was something I had not done in 48 years., I ran on a track. I wanted to run known distances as fast as possible to assess my speed and condition. (Is there a rule somewhere old people shouldn't sprint?). Didn't give it too much thought, just did it. The result was A) it was fun B) I know what I need to improve.
Hello Chris. Saw you dropped a like and comment on the BTO posting about the bear diet. Have you ordered from Force of Nature. Anything highly recommended or anything to avoid?
"If I added to it, I’d add 8 500 meter rows at your 2,000 meter goal (mine is 1:45/500 M) with 3:30 breaks in between. A colleague suggested this rowing program and I love it. "
What rower do you use? I have a concept2 RowErg and absolutely love it. 1:45/500M seems like a very impressive pace. What type of resistance would this be on?
Thanks Chris, good stuff. I am no where near the athlete you are but I enjoy and learn so much from what is going on in your head. Great suggestion to donate blood, I’m overdue.
I feel seen -- love combat sidestroke but super dominant on one side; I basically do it until I can't anymore then flail around on other side. In theory I agree with you; in practice, I have not acted on it. And the more you let yourself get asymmetric, the worse it gets.
And I feel “seen” on StW. What goes around comes around =) Try breaking the movement down into smaller parts. Tread water with your non-dominant leg in front. It’s the same sculling motion with your hands regardless of which way your legs go, so it should feel easier to learn. And the leg motion is basically the same as a side stroke, so once you get that down treading water, you’ll have half the side stroke mastered. Then add the arms and viola! And agreed, procrastinating only makes it harder. PS - if you’re not breathing every 3 or 5 (ie odd) strokes on freestyle, do that too
Rule utilitarianism is much easier and healthier psychologically than act utilitarianism because it avoids having this constant stream of nearly infinite decisions to consider. This is particularly true for CEOs who lack as many moment to moment externally imposed constraints.

Awesome (and old people absolutely should sprint!). A and B both crucial.

Thank you.
Yes; I love it. Favorites described in "Fueling" here: https://valetudo.substack.com/p/hearts-and-minds
Enjoyed this piece, Chris.

Resistance = 6.
Rower = C2 https://valetudo.substack.com/p/just-one-thing
Time for me to start pushing harder! Thanks.
Use the whole 3.5 minute rest and then just Viking berserker the 500 M!

My local drive is on the right cadence so I can hit all 6 this year. Really dominates as a decision -- a win/win for both giver and receiver.
If you do the swim as a side stroke, I suggest adding a requirement to do 1/2 on each side. I’m a huge believer in symmetrical movement.

I'll try!
You're welcome!
