Planning
Like rowing? A lot? Adding to my plans:
The Talisker Whisky Challenge is a mainstay of the Atlantic but coming to the Pacific for the first time in 2023. Next year is already jammed up but this is my plan for 2024 or 2025 before hiking up Mauna Kea. Here’s their latest:
Training
Saturday is always a partner WOD, so we can split the reps in half. Today’s white board:
60 Deadlifts 155 lbs
45 Hang Power Cleans 155 lbs
30 Push Jerks 155 lbs
120/100 Cal Ski
30 Push Jerks 155 lbs
45 Hang Power Cleans 155 lbs
60 Deadlifts 155 lbs
On my own time, I’m working on atlas stones as well as the Terry Todd Sword and the Stone Challenge I described in my last post. I have a ways to go to get to 56 lbs. I started at 18 and am now at 26 and that is already a struggle. Incidentally, this is a great exercise if you ever find yourself at some hotel gym with only puny dumbbells. Just grab a light weight and hold it out in front of you with your arms locked out horizontally for a minute… after 30-45 seconds even light weights don’t feel so light.
Recovering
If you live in the New York region and want farm to table clean food delivered weekly, then please check out Hudson Milk + Market. I get my kefir from them and drink a shot of it before bed. It contains tryptophan, which promotes better sleep by boosting melatonin.
Pharma
Marius Pharma just got FDA approval this month for their oral testosterone booster Kyzatrex. I have not gone on it yet but am interested to learn more so contacted the company for additional information about this prescription.
Measuring
PBF declined from 11% in June to 9% today. I use the professional InBody model at my gym but am getting consistent readings with this at home. I recommend getting one and using it daily – you only care about what you measure. As an approximation for fitness, male shoulders to waist ratio should be about 1.6 and chest to waist should be about 1.4. I’m at 1.4 and 1.3 respectively with shoulders / chest / waist 48” / 44” / 34”. I want to get my waist down towards 30” but I’m doing a lot of GHDs which seem to be hurting rather than helping that stat.
Next
5 AM tomorrow morning with the Cobweb Crew (as in we hit the trail first so get all of the cobwebs in our face):
If you’re near Westchester County and want to join in the fun, details are here.
Kyzatrex - First I heard of it and haven't looked into it at all, but know one of the issues with SARMs and other orals is they tend to be rough on the liver and less precise due to absorption issues (again, take with grain of salt, maybe they have fixed some of the issues).
But I'd be curious if they solved all those issues and have something oral that is similar in effectiveness and safety as subQ T
