Evolution to evolution.
- Jack Carr
As Jack Carr was going through Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S), he never ruminated on the entire six months but instead on just the immediate task at hand: the single evolution or workout that he had to accomplish before moving onto the next. This is at the same time a key to both effectiveness and happiness – ignoring regrets about the past and worries about the future and instead turning all of that energy to the present. How many pull ups do you have to do? Just one more.
Training
I’m managing to keep my lifting/running/fighting combo on track. CrossFit, trail running, and mixed martial arts are going well. I need to make a few compromises on CrossFit with some joint issues exacerbated by long trail runs, but other than lunges and burpees, I’m pretty much able to do everything. The new strength trainer outside of CrossFit is helping a lot. We’re working on a four day per week program for twelve weeks to help add some muscle mass. The environment is completely different but good for what I need – not as fun as a group CrossFit class but calm and sustainable. I’m slowly getting stronger without too much added stress.
Fueling
I love the cause and love their venison:
Hawaii’s Axis deer are invasive. And delicious. Get some here.
Recovering
Give blood. The American Red Cross needs it (and with various upcoming adventures I might need it back!). Also, there are a few health benefits that come with it. Men tend to have too much iron in our blood and I have a very iron-rich diet – a lot of red meat, some organ meat, and a lot of spinach and broccoli. Giving blood is a simple cure. Also, endocrine therapy can thicken blood. Donating fixes this too.
Supplementing
I’m starting on a new over the counter multivitamin that is the best I’ve ever seen. I particularly like the vitamin D dose and getting a high-quality magnesium (which I had been taking separately). If you don’t have one you love, check it out:
This is just a small tweak – it is a marginal improvement over my previous multivitamin but is also a bit more expensive. I take it when I wake up along with two prescriptions (enclomiphene and tadalafil) and two non-prescription supplements (creatine and beta-alanine).
TL; DR
Stay present, lift heavy, eat deer, and give blood.
I have one job: Deploy capital in proportion to the opportunity in the moment
what is your rx on the tadalafil and what is your main reason for taking it?
