Reflecting
Creed II’s desert training scene is one of my favorite portrayals of training on film. I can’t wait for the next sequel; trailer just dropped:

Supplementing
I am going to try to cycle off of caffeine for a few weeks. I am not worried about its side effects since I take it early enough in the day that it doesn’t harm sleep, but I want to reset its effects at lower doses. Going to rely on acetaminophen if I get headaches and Modafinil for energy. It has a 15 hour half life to I’ll take it at 3:30 AM to minimize its impact on sleep. The only other supplement tweak is I’m thinking about adding a probiotic; perhaps this (comment with any view on this supplement; curious to what others are on).
When I go back on caffeine, it will be back to black coffee. I have a new coffee supplement that I love – you just drop a scoop in coffee for some collagen (which I need more of for joint health) and L-Theanine, which smooths the caffeine effect. Worth trying.
Measuring
I have a new app Vivoo that tracks Vitamin C, Magnesium, Calcium, Salinity, Oxidative Stress, pH, Hydration, Ketones, and Proteins. Most people are quite low on magnesium in particular which is worth tracking. Ketones will show if one is actually in ketosis (I’m skeptical whether most people who talk about being keto are really in ketosis). This is an efficient and convenient way to monitor key health variables.
This morning I did my 23andMe genetic test and am eager to see the results. For a more fitness focused analysis of the results, I’m sending them to Foundmyfitness which takes the 23andMe results to analyze VO2max improvement capacity, susceptibility to muscle fatigue and other ramifications of one’s genes.
Closing
Thanks to each of the people I most rely on in this fitness journey – CrossFit Norwalk’s Mike Sabato, Sunday Runs’ Lee Willett, personal trainer Adam Gadsden, Gracie Sports USA’s Thyago Ribeiro, and Dr. Cam Sepah. There are surely others but those are the critical five men who I most rely upon to get in fighting shape.
I also am a huge fan of the Creed movies. Psyched for the next one
